Artist Statement: I am a history major who is fascinated by the beauty
of the past. Mosaic art is such a forgiving medium that has given me a
much-needed outlet. I enjoy the entire process, the basic design, choosing
the colors and textures, the puzzle, and finally the solid aspects of the grouting.

I tend to meditate during the adhesion phase but there is nothing better
than grouting day. For me each batch of grout is unique in texture and
often even color, influenced by the steadiness of my hand and the weather.
Each has its own characteristics and drying times.

Materials: I basically like to use many different types of materials.
Practically anything is within scope. If I can find a way to adhere it, I will use
it. However, the materials that I use most are vitreous glass tiles, ceramic
tiles, my own fired clay tiles, smalti, picasette, mirror, mirrored tiles, stained
glass, marble, natural stone, glass gems, cameos, millifore, and found objects.
Lately, I have had some very generous potters contribute their broken odds
and ends.

Method: I generally use the direct method. I find I like the uneven movement
of the tesserae, especially when using smalti. It adds interest for me. It also
presents more of a grouting challenge. I have 7 different types of nippers, and
a hammer and hardie for the marble and thick things.

Things to Remember:

All of my artwork is handmade. Even when I try to copy a piece
I've already done, it never is exactly the same.

I love custom orders or if you see something in the gallery you may order it.
No project is too small or too big. Pricing and completion times vary,
but are generally very reasonable. For some orders, I can only do in the
metropolitan Atlanta area due to shipping costs.

A short list of the materials I work with:

Vitreous Glass Tiles
Ceramic Tiles
My own Fired Clay Tiles
Smalti
Picasette
Mirror
Mirrored Tiles
Stained Glass
